Jockey Club Bereavement Care and Support Alliance (JCBeCARE) is a project organized by the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the University of Hong Kong, funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. It aims to connect different social service organizations, helping professionals and people who care about bereavement issues in Hong Kong, so that bereaved people may receive necessary supports from the community and their social supports can be strengthened. Besides, it is hoped to consolidate practical wisdom and empirical research findings in developing best practice guidelines and models in bereavement care. By providing assessment guidelines, intervention models and professional training, the overall competencies of helping professionals in offering bereavement counseling would be enhanced.
The JCBeCARE logo is made up of different dots, each representing a different individual or organization, now linked together to form an alliance – the Jockey Club Bereavement Care and Support Alliance. The symbol after the acronym is a bunch of seedlings, symbolizing hope and new beginnings. When we connect and support each other, we can find infinite hope in our limited lives, just as the symbol of the seedling is made up of an infinite symbol (∞).
The project will bring together the practical wisdom and empirical research findings of scholars, managers, and professional colleagues in the field of bereavement care, and provide the best practice guidelines and models from the perspectives of the public health three-tiered intervention framework. Launched in 2023, the two-year project aims at improving the services of bereavement care, enhancing the capacity of service providers, as well as raising public awareness.
